IO –  A Name for The Central Spiritual Sun?

To complement the journey of soul/mind on this probe we also undertook an outer journey to involve the body, senses and heart.

The image below is a potent symbol from the current conflict that illustrates the plutonic impact of the first ray upon the second. Note how the centre is hit exactly! The red cross is a global symbol of compassion and the heart – the bomb has opened a hole in it.

We took a recent road trip in NZ using the symbol as a guide and made some connections to share.

We started at Taupo which in Maori legend is the heart of the fish ( north island ) . It is a lake that was made by the greatest volcanic explosion on the planet which blew out a massive crater  in the shape of a heart and so we contemplated the waters of compassion that can fill the chalice of the heart after the fiery ordeal. We composed  a song together for the heart.

We then journeyed to Jerusalem – the name of a small town in NZ that is remote, serene and peaceful in a way that the Jerusalem on the other side of the world is not. The road was closed just as when we were in Jerusalem Israel last year but this time the closure was because of too much water. We found a way round and spent time in the chapel there contemplating these two Jerusalems and the difference between them. This small remote settlement ( of maybe 15 houses ) has given birth to the Sisters of Compassion ( a national charity ) been the home for NZ’s most renowned poet and a place of reconciliation between races, cultures and religions.

Christ who is ointment

And for whom I carry

The incurable wound of life

And stand in the black flame

The journey now takes us to Highden – a modern mystery school anchored in an old catholic monastery near Feilding. Here we are drawn to the Mary grotto and spend our time creating a visible prayer to the energy of the Mother and the fire of the heart with candles and roses. At dusk we discover that the candle in her hands has dripped red wax on her white robes as if the heart has been pierced.

The next day we end our journey through a series of synchronous meetings at the site of an old Maori mystery school being instructed on ancient lore. All that is left of this centre is the remnants of some posts and the markings on the earth that show where the temple was. Of course it was built in the shape of an even armed cross and was called the Temple of the four winds or Te Miringa te Kakara.! We gather round the central post to hear how the temple was oriented to the rising and setting of Matariki – the Maori name for the Pleiades – and that the central post is dedicated to the formless God of creation they call IO. ( pronounced eeeoooo )  It is through the hole in the centre of the cross that our prayers and invocations reach this God. We share our journey, pray together and finish with a song written years ago for just this moment.

"We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time. ... TS Eliot

All journeys are circular like the snake eating its tail and so this journey ends with the Leo Probe where the heart journey and head journey come together. Researching the central spiritual sun I come upon this quote from the Secret Doctrine.

And now it may be hoped the full meaning of the serpent emblem is proven. It is neither that of evil, nor, least of all, that of the devil; but is , indeed, the [[SEMES EILAM ABRASAX]] ("the eternal Sun-Abrasax"), the central spiritual sun of all the Kabalists, represented in some diagrams by the circle of Tiphereth. SD ii p215

Abraxas or Abrasax is a symbol for the central spiritual sun and he is standing over the letters IAW or variously given in other depictions as IAO or just IO.

The Maori name for the sun God is Ra – the same as the Egyptian name so here we also have a convergence in the name for that which lies behind the Sun – the central spiritual sun which emerges when the sun door is passed or the soul/heart is pierced.

IO is of course the binary code – not just for computers but the Universe. It is masculine/feminine – The black hole and space – Shamballa and the Mother of the World.

We come to IO through RA – the Father/Mother through the Sun. The solar core must be pierced and opened to the pure black flame of spirit – the feet bathed in the blood of the heart.

And so the journey of the heart and feet through image, pilgrimage, poetry and silence has lead to the same place as the journey of the winged soul. The hole in the heart of the red cross is now a symbol – not of the ineffectiveness of compassion – but of how compassion can be opened through suffering to find the sword of Shamballa in the heart and the invincible fire of Life itself
